Ardmore had, up until very recently, been utilized as a primary malt for Teacher’s blended whiskies. Their malt is peated at about a 15 ppm level with peat from the mainland rather than the islands. This Traditional Cask bottling is aged for 6-13 years in American oak before being transferred to smaller Quarter Casks to finish the aging process for another year.
Ardmore Traditional Cask Peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes
Nose: Full of caramel. Toasted oak is evident and rich and just the faintest peat has muscled its way through.
Palate: Lots of barley and cereal notes, oodles of rich bourbon, smoke and peat still present. Charming interplay through the caramel sweetness and the vanilla spiced oak.
Finish: Has a sharp edge, more caramel and sugary barley notes and a lanolin smoothness and more tapering smoke.
Distillery Information
Ardmore distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery. The Ardmore distillery sits at the highest point of the Northern railway line, 600 feet above sea level. Close to the small village of Kennethmont, the proximity to the railway line allowed founder Adam Teacher to transport materials from Glasgow to this remote corner of Aberdeenshire, helping the distillery flourish.
